CFCV Heads to Regionals

May 27, 2011

Two individual CFCV athletes as well as Team Crossfit Cache Valley qualified to compete in the Crossfit Southwest Regionals!  At the Regionals competition, the top 3 men, top 3 women and top 3 teams advance to compete in the Crossfit Games in July.

Over the next couple of weeks, CFCV will be featuring a little more about the competition athletes and team as they prepare to head to Regionals June 10-12 in Colorado.  First up: Gil.

Gil placed 4th in the Southwest region and 59th worldwide in the ’11 Open Sectional competition nailing his spot to move on to Regionals. Anyone who sees Gil in action knows he hits it hard, setting a fiery and steady pace only to turn on the “afterburners” at the end to crush the WOD and his competition. His plan of attack during the Open–“Get as many reps as you can when you’re fresh”—worked out well for him since all 6 Open workouts were time priority AMRAPs.

Gil has been doing Crossfit workouts since 2008 and joined CFCV in 2009. With only 2 years of Crossfitting under his belt, Gil had an impressive 2010 Crossfit Games competition season.  He placed 2nd at the Utah/NV sectionals and 5th at the Northwest Regionals.  Having been narrowly edged out of the top slots last year, Gil is confident that he belongs at the 2011 Crossfit Games, competing for the title of “Fittest Man on Earth”.

The upcoming Regionals workouts play well to Gil’s strengths. And although he is facing three days of two mind and body numbing WODs per day, there is no doubt he will follow his own advice: “I don’t want to finish my workout and say, ‘I could have went harder’”.

Best of luck to Gil!
